South/Indian Ocean coasts: dry-season surf April–October, peak June–September. G-Land camps are primarily dry-season operations. Wet season (Nov–Mar) is inconsistent for park camps and harder on south-coast roads.

Java's cities (Jakarta, Surabaya, Bandung, Yogyakarta) have easy ATM and card access, but every south-coast surf zone is cash-first. Warungs, board rental, guides, drivers, parking, and small homestays expect cash — and ATMs disappear as you approach the breaks.

Withdraw and, if needed, exchange your rupiah in a major gateway — Jakarta, Surabaya, Yogyakarta, Banyuwangi, or Bali if you're routing to G-Land — before you head to any south-coast surf zone. Take out more than you think you'll need: south-coast villages run on cash, ATMs thin out fast, and the last reliable machine is usually in the nearest regency town, not the beach. Carry a mix of larger and smaller notes for warungs and drivers, and keep a backup stash separate from your main wallet.
For a multi-day surf stay on Java's south coast, plan to carry enough cash to cover accommodation, food, transport, and tips for the whole leg — you often cannot top up near the break. Ramadan can shorten business and bank hours; if you combine G-Land access via Bali, note that Nyepi (Balinese Day of Silence) falls on Thursday 19 March 2026, closing Ngurah Rai airport, ports, roads, and services island-wide from 06:00 on 19 March to 06:00 on 20 March — including ATMs and money changers.
Easy in Jakarta, Surabaya, Yogyakarta, and Bali (a common G-Land gateway). Scarce on the south coast — exchange in a gateway city before heading to the coast.

Last reliable withdrawal: Bali (if routing via Ketapang–Gilimanuk ferry / boat charter) or Banyuwangi town
No ATMs inside the national park. Most surfers arrive by boat charter from Bali or overland via the Ketapang–Gilimanuk ferry; Banyuwangi (BWX) is the alternative air gateway. Camps are largely pre-paid/all-inclusive, but bring cash for park fees, tips, drinks, and extras. Withdraw before you enter.
Last reliable withdrawal: Pacitan town
Pacitan town has ATMs; Watu Karung village (about an hour away) is a small, cash-first surf settlement with limited card acceptance. Withdraw in Pacitan before basing at the coast.
Last reliable withdrawal: Cijulang (Mandiri ATM) or Pangandaran town
No ATMs in Batu Karas village itself; nearest is the Mandiri ATM in Cijulang, ~15 min away. Pangandaran town has better access. Cash needed for warungs, massages, and board rental; some accommodation takes cards.
Last reliable withdrawal: Pelabuhan Ratu (or ATMs at Cimaja's Indomaret/Alfamart)
Closest south-coast surf zone to Jakarta. ATMs exist at Cimaja's Indomaret and Alfamart minimarts (reported fee-free but occasionally out of service), with more reliable options in nearby Pelabuhan Ratu. Still largely cash for warungs, guides, and board rental.
Last reliable withdrawal: Jakarta / Serang / Pandeglang before the drive to Sumur or Tanjung Lesung
No ATMs on Panaitan Island; boat-access only from Sumur/Taman Jaya (2–3 hrs sail). Ujung Kulon National Park has required cashless (QRIS/e-wallet/debit) payment for entry tickets since 30 January 2025; foreign entry is IDR 150,000–225,000. Everything else — boat charter incidentals, village purchases, food — is cash carried in. Withdraw well before leaving the city.
